NEW COSTUME:
LEGO Survivor Girl

Rachel Peterson has stage four metastatic breast cancer and cosplays as her original character "Survivor Girl."

This video showcases the LEGO costume I built inspired by her character and she also shares her inspiring story.

How It Started

The year was 2014. The LEGO® Movie just released and I decided to create my own costume inspired by the movie.

After taking heavy inspiration from The Block Guys (blockguys.com) and their style of torso / leg construction, I set to work creating "Ricky;" my first LEGO®-inspired costume!

How It's Going

Nearly a decade and four costumes later, what began as a small side project has grown into a full-on hobby, with appearances at both comic conventions and fundraisers.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple: to brighten people's day and generate more smiles. For the latest updates and appearance dates, be sure to follow @The_Batbrick on Instagram!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Long Did It Take You to Make These?
It depends on the costume; my first superhero costume (LEGO® Batman) took about 5 and a half months in total to create. With each costume, however, my process has sped up: depending on time availability, I can churn out a costume now in about 3 months. That's while working a full-time job and some freelance work on the side.
  • What Materials Do You Use?
Great question! The suits are primarily made using cardboard, pool noodles, Gorilla Tape (#notsponsored (yet)), some EVA foam (that's how I created the hair for Superman and Wonder Woman), and automotive vinyl wrap for that glossy plastic-like finish.
  • Does it Get Hot In There?
While it does get toasty after extended periods of time, each costume is fitted with internal USB-powered cooling fans and carefully placed vents for the in- and out-flow of air. Pretty neat, right?
  • Do You Make Appearances?
Although we don't make appearances at certain events such as birthday parties, you can find us at various comic cons, charities, and LEGO® conventions around Michigan. With that said, we're open to exploring potential opportunities for appearances! For more information, please reach out on Instagram (@the_batbrick) and we can see if it's a good match!
  • Can I Buy One?
At this time I don't have any plans to offer the costumes for sale. If you're interested in making your own, however, you can find some handy tutorials over at @the_batbrick on Instagram!
  • Do You Take Commissions?
At this time I am not accepting commissions or costume requests, but keep an eye on @the_batbrick on Instagram for all the latest news and new costume updates!
  • How Can I Make My Own?
That's awesome that you want to create your own! For helpful tutorials and behind-the-scenes content, check out @the_batbrick on Instagram. Feel free to leave any questions or requests for specific tutorials and I might just create it!
  • Where Are You Based Out Of?
Metro Detroit! This means that we tend to favor appearing at conventions in that area, but we're definitely open to the possibility of traveling within Michigan (or even out of state eventually!).
